
Mills Wins 8th Straight, Dogs Win 8-1

Portland, Maine- Adam Mills won his eighth straight start and improved to 10-5 on the season as the Portland Sea Dogs (53-57) defeated the Altoona Curve (45-67) 8-1 Thursday afternoon at Hadlock Field in front of 7,368 fans. The Sea Dogs took two out of three from Altoona and outscored the Curve 17-1 in the final two games of the series.
Mills became the first Sea Dogs pitcher this season to toss eight innings. He allowed one run on five hits while striking out eight and did not allow a walk. Mills is the first pitcher in the Sea Dogs' 16 year history in win eight straight starts. He is the third pitcher in the league this season to record ten wins and just the 14th in Sea Dogs franchise history. Since June 27th, Mills is 8-0 with a 1.98 ERA.
Ryne Miller worked the ninth inning for Portland allowing one hit and striking out two.
Altoona starter Derek Hankins (3-4) took the loss allowing eight runs on ten hits in six innings of work.
Portland got off to a quick start scoring four runs in the second inning. 1B Jon Still led off the inning with a walk and was followed by a single by RF Daniel Nava in his first Double-A at-bat. C Juan Apodaca knocked-in both Still and Nava with a double. DH Luis Exposito followed with a double to score Apodaca. 2B Ryan Khoury capped off the inning with a single scoring Exposito.
Apodaca would continue his hot hitting with a two run double in the fifth inning. Apodca was 2-for-4 on the day with 3 RBI's. He extended his hitting streak to eight games. LF Ryan Kalish added a two run home run, his seventh of the season, in the 6th inning to give Portland an 8-0 lead.
The Portland Sea Dogs welcome the Bowie Baysox (Orioles) to town on Friday night at 7:00 PM. RHP Blake Maxwell (3-7, 5.67) gets the start for Portland. He'll be opposed by RHP Tim Bascom (2-4, 3.67). Notes...Portland improved to 7-15 against the Southern Division and took their first series win in 7 tries against a south opponent this season....The Sea Dogs tied a season high with six doubles...Still's double in the fifth inning was his Eastern League leading 32nd double of the season, he is just four doubles shy of Brandon Moss's franchise record of 36 set in 2006...It was the third straight sell out for the Sea Dogs and 14th time this season the Sea Dogs have sold out Hadlock Field.
