Thunder rally falls just short, 5-4

(Trenton, NJ)- Harrisburg broke a 3-3 tie with runs in the 8th and 9th Innings, and then held off a Trenton rally for a 5-4 win on Wednesday night at Waterfront Park. The Thunder ended the game with the tying and winning runs in scoring position.

The Senators (45-39) ran out to a 3-0 lead, including Dan Dement two-run homer off Matt DeSalvo in the 2nd Inning. But the Thunder (46-39) came back to tie the game with a pair of runs in the 3rd Inning and one more in the 4th Inning. CF Brett Gardner doubled off Tony Armas, Jr. to start the inning. He stole 3rd Base and scored when the throw went into left field. RF Bronson Sardinha added an RBI single later in the inning. Gardner then tied the game with an RBI single in the fourth.

Armas, on a rehab from the Washington Nationals, allowed two runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings. DeSalvo issued a season-high seven walks, but kept Trenton in the game. He allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Harrisburg took a 4-3 lead off Charlie Manning in the 8th Inning. Prentice Redman walked, stole 2nd Base and scored on a hit by C Salomon Manriquez. The Senators added an insurance run in the 9th Inning on a throwing error by Kevin Howard. the Thunder came within 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth on a Gabe Lopez RBI single, but Harrisburg closer Brett Campbell got the last two outs with two men in scoring position to end the game and record his 7th save. The win went to reliever Devin Perrin (2-2) who worked three shutout innings. Manning (6-1) allowed one run in 2 1/3 innings for the loss.

The series concludes on Thursday at 7:05 PM. Jeff Karstens (5-0, 2.38) goes for Trenton against Harrisburg's Kip Bouknight (4-5, 4.50).
