Published on July 5, 2006 under Eastern League (EL1) News Release

ALTOONA- The Altoona Curve, in conjunction with the Eastern League, today announced several changes to the Southern Division roster for the 2006 UPMC Health Plan Eastern League All-Star Game, which will take place next Wednesday evening at 7:45 PM at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona, PA.

Three members of the Erie SeaWolves and two Reading Phillies who were originally selected as All-Stars will be unable to participate in the game and have been replaced by players from their respective clubs.

Erie pitcher Bobby M. Jones, infielder Tony Giarratano and outfielder Kurt Airoso will all miss the E.L. All-Star Game with injuries and have been replaced on the Southern Division team by pitchers Nate Bumstead and Brian Rogers and infielder Kody Kirkland.

Meanwhile, two Reading Phillies will not be able to participate in the E.L. Mid-Summer Classic after leaving the club within the past week. Left-handed starting pitcher Daniel Haigwood was traded by the Philadelphia Phillies to Texas last Thursday, while outfielder Michael Bourn was promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday night. Replacing Haigwood and Bourn will be fellow R-Phils Gary Burnham and Matt Padgett.

The 2006 UPMC Health Plan Eastern League All-Star Game will feature some of the brightest stars from the league's 12 teams, as the top players from the Eastern League's Southern Division (Akron Aeros, Altoona Curve, Bowie Baysox, Erie SeaWolves, Harrisburg Senators and Reading Phillies) will square off against All-Star players from the league's Northern Division clubs (Binghamton Mets, Connecticut Defenders, New Britain Rock Cats, New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Portland Sea Dogs and Trenton Thunder).

Each roster consists of 25 players, including at least three players from each of the Eastern League's 12 teams. Every club is also represented by at least one position player and one pitcher, as selected by fans of each respective team through Rite Aid Fan Balloting at the 12 E.L. ballparks. The remaining selections were made through voting by league media, managers and officials. The field staffs of the host Altoona Curve (Pirates) and defending Northern Division champion Portland Sea Dogs, led by managers Tim Leiper and Todd Claus, will serve as the coaches for the contest.
