Thunder Prepare for Denver; Add 2nd Year Forward

Denver, CO (October 25th) - The Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League, powered by Toyota, prepare for two games this weekend against the Denver Cutthroats and continue to make changes to its line-up, signing second-year forward Nick McParland to a contract today. He will be in the line-up tonight as the team makes it lone trip to the Rocky Mountains.
McParland, 26, turned pro last year playing eight games with the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL. A native of Schreiber, ON, he played a four-year career at Lake Superior State University (NCAA DI), playing in 142 games and collecting 66 points (29g, 37a). As a junior, he scored 14 goals and added 13 assists in 39 games, which led LSSU in goals and finished second in points. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward spent his junior hockey with the Oakville Blades of the OPJHL. His best season was in 2007-08 when he registered 77 points (29g, 48a) in 49 games.
Wichita and Denver will meet four times this season. The Thunder went 1-1-1 in its opening weekend, losing to Rapid City at home on Friday night 2-1 and then splitting with Allen as both games ended 4-3 in a shootout. The Americans won Friday night 4-3 at INTRUST Bank Arena while the Thunder spoiled Allen's banner raising ceremony with a 4-3 shootout road win. Denver beat Tulsa in both games last weekend, winning 4-1 on Friday night and 3-2 on Saturday night in an 18-round shootout.
The Thunder made several roster moves this past week, signing forwards Jason Wilson, and Jared Walker to contracts. Matt Summers was placed on the 30-Day IR. Wichita also waived forwards Jake Hendrickson and Nik Yaremchuk. Forward Ian Lowe has been placed on 7-Day IR. The CHL ruled earlier this week that forward RG Flath has been suspended for two games and will miss this weekend's match-up against the Cutthroats.
The Thunder remains in Denver tomorrow for its last meeting at the Denver Coliseum against the Cutthroats. The next Thunder home game is Friday, November 1st against the Brampton Beast, which is Faith and Fellowship night, followed by a post-game concert with Abandon Kansas!
