March 7, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
TULSA, OK- The Wichita Thunder lost 6-5 to the Tulsa Oilers on Saturday night at the BOK Center. The Thunder grabbed a 2-0 lead just 5:29 into the game, but three ensuing Oilers' goals wiped away an advantage that would never return.
Marc Belanger threaded the needle on the short side of the net at 4:43 for an unassisted goal to score the first goal of the game. Chris Tarkir then scored on a wrap around move during a Thunder power play, also to the left of Oilers' goaltender Davis Parley, at 5:29. Tulsa then went on to score three straight, with goals from Ben Camper at 6:53, Jake Riddle at 7:39, and Kevin Seibel at 18:00 to take a 3-2 lead.
At 10:47 in the second, Brad Thompson tied the game for Wichita, redirecting Jason Tessier's shot from the point. The Oilers scored two more in a row, including Jason Weitzel at 14:37 and Rob Dmytruk on the power play at 16:40 to take their first two-goal lead of the night. Andrew Davis crashed the net and netted a quick shot on the back door with just 53 seconds left in the period to narrow the gap to 5-4.
Troy Ofukany delivered a game-tying goal at 9:39 in the third period to once again tie it for the Thunder, but less than two minutes later, Brendon Hodge connected on a power play to make it 6-5 Tulsa. Wichita had several chances inside the zone with an extra attacker in the final minute, including a diving play from Jason Duda to hold the zone that set up a last second shot from Scott Rozendal, which was eventually saved by Parley.
Krister Toews took the loss, saving 39 of 45, while Parley earned the win saving 25 of 30. Wichita went 2 for 4 on the power play, while going 5 for 7 on the penalty kill.
Wichita next plays on Friday when they host the Texas Brahmas at the Kansas Coliseum. For tickets to the 7:05 p.m. game, call the Thunder office at (316) 264-GOAL.
