Rage Lose in Amarillo, 5-2

March 7, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Amarillo - Looking to sweep three straight games this week after taking a pair from the Colorado Eagles each of the last two nights, the Rocky Mountain Rage were unable to overcome the Amarillo Gorillas at the Amarillo Civic Center, losing 5-2.

The setback ended any chance the club had of catching the Oklahoma City Blazers and Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in the Northern Conference standings, and the Rage will enter the President's Cup Playoffs during the final week of March as the conference's fifth seed.

Rocky Mountain was forced to play catch-up all evening long, as Amarillo's special teams controlled the opening 20 minutes of play. Jamie McKinven scored short-handed at 6:39, which was followed by a five-on-three power play goal from Gordon Bell. The Rage's Scott Wray cut the lead in half when he jammed home a rebound at 16:40, but the Gorillas restored their two-goal lead with another power play marker at 19:32 off the stick of former Rocky Mountain winger John Snowden.

During the first intermission, Rage head coach Tracy Egeland was given a minor penalty and a game misconduct for abuse of officials and ejected from the game. With Scott Reid getting the start in goal tonight, forced to run the bench in place of Egeland was goaltender Marty Magers.

Having been assessed the minor penalty during intermission, Rocky Mountain began the second a man down. Just 41 seconds into the period, Daymen Rycroft set-up Aaron Davis on a two-on-one, and the latter scored the team's 14th short-handed goal of the year to pull within 3-2.

Despite numerous chances in front of Amarillo netminder Mike Gorman, the Rage never drew even. The Gorillas found insurance at 9:04 of the third when Joe Guenther beat Reid from the left circle before Jake Morissette added an empty-netter with 1:10 remaining for the final margin.

The loss drops Rocky Mountain to 31-24-4 with 66 points in the standings.

The Rage now return to Broomfield Event Center to open a four-game homestand that begins with a clash against the Colorado Eagles on Friday, March 13, at 7:05 p.m. After tonight the club has just one more road game, the back-half of a home-and-home with the Gorillas on March 21 to conclude the regular season slate.

Individual tickets for the Rage's remaining regular season games at Broomfield Event Center are available for as low as $5 for kids 12 and under (with the purchase of at least one adult ticket) and cost just $10 for students with a valid ID. Tickets may be purchased at the BEC Box Office, www.Ticketmaster.com, (303) 830-TIXS, and all Ticketmaster retail outlets.
