Thunder Lose on Walk-Off Single in New Hampshire

Manchester, NH - A walk-off single by Shawn Bowman in the ninth inning brought Adam Calderone in to score the game-winning run, and the Fisher Cats defeated the Thunder 3-2 on Tuesday night in Manchester. The loss snaps Trenton's ten game winning streak, and they drop to 21-16 on the season.
Through the first four innings, the two teams combined for just three hits, as starting pitchers David Phelps and Zach Stewart both turned in impressive starts. In the top of the fifth, Daniel Brewer doubled to lead off the inning and reached third base on a groundout. Brewer scored the first run of the game on a ground ball hit by Edwar Gonzalez to put the Thunder ahead 1-0. New Hampshire answered right back to tie the game in the bottom half of the fifth, as Shawn Bowman led off with a double and came into score two batters later on an RBI double to right field by Adam Loewen. Trenton regained the lead in the sixth inning, as Austin Romine drove in Austin Krum on an RBI double to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead.
In the eighth inning, Loewen tied the game at two, hitting a solo home run off Phelps to the deepest part of the stadium. The home run was the first of the season given up by Phelps.
Trenton loaded the bases with one out in the top of the ninth inning off RHP Vince Bongiovanni (4-0), but Edwar Gonzalez grounded into a double play to end the threat. In the bottom of the ninth, LHP Wilkins Arias (2-1) came on in relief and gave up a lead-off single to Calderone, who advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Trenton intentionally walked Brad Emaus to set up a potential double play, but Bowman hit a deep fly ball that landed on the warning track in left center field, allowing Calderone to score from second and win the game.
Adam Loewen finished the night going 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
For the Thunder, Austin Romine and Brandon Laird both finished 2-for-4.
The Thunder and Fisher Cats play game two of the three game series on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Lance Pendleton makes the start for the Thunder, and the Fisher Cats counter with RHP Bobby Bell.
