New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - Adam Loewen went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, and Shawn Bowman drilled a walk-off single to the left field warning track to complete the New Hampshire Fisher Cats' come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Trenton Thunder on Tuesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Vince Bongiovanni improved to 4-0 with one scoreless inning of relief as the Fisher Cats (25-13) snapped the Thunder's 10-game winning streak.
Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Adam Calderone (1-for-4, R) led off with an infield single off losing pitcher Wilkins Arias (2-1). Following a sac bunt by Eric Thames, Trenton (21-16) opted to intentionally walk Brad Emaus. The move backfired when Bowman (2-for-4, 2B, RBI, R) connected for his game-winning single to deep left, scoring Calderone and giving New Hampshire its second walk-off victory of the season.
Trenton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Daniel Brewer (1-for-3, 2B, HBP, R) doubled off New Hampshire starter Zach Stewart and later scored on a grounder by Edwar Gonzalez.
The Fisher Cats answered in the bottom of the fifth against Thunder starter David Phelps when Bowman doubled off the left field wall and Loewen ripped an RBI double into the right field corner, tying the game 1-1.
The Thunder took its second lead of the night in the sixth on a two-out, run-scoring double by Austin Romine (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) off Stewart, making it 2-1.
Loewen responded with a one-out solo shot, his fifth, in the home half of the eighth, spoiling Phelps' bid for a fourth straight win.
Stewart worked six innings, allowing two runs on five hits. The right-hander fanned three.
Phelps lasted a season-high eight innings, yielding two runs on six hits in eight innings, with four strikeouts and one walk.
The Fisher Cats and the Thunder continue their three-game series on Wednesday night at 7:05pm with New Hampshire right-hander Bobby Bell (3-2, 5.89) taking the mound against Trenton right-hander Lance Pendleton (1-2, 4.37) at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.
Wednesday night is CCSNH Reading Challenge Night, and fans can play USA Subs Baseball Bingo at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. For tickets and information, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
