
Thunder Lose First Meeting vs. Mavericks 4-1

Independence, MO (November 8th) - Wichita has been victim of allowing a big period in games to its opponent early in the season and that trend continued on Friday night as the Thunder (1-6-3) lost 4-1 to the Missouri Mavericks (7-0-0) at the Independence Events Center. Missouri scored three times in the second period and added an insurance goal in the third to extend the Thunder's winless skid to seven. Jared Walker recorded his second of the season in the losing effort. The Thunder will host the Mavericks tomorrow night to close out a two-game set on the weekend against Missouri.
Colten Hayes gave Missouri the first lead of the game at the 8:10 mark of the second period. He stepped up from the blue line and put a shot past Torrie Jung with assists to Evan Vossen and Obi Aduba. Wichita answered a several minutes later with a power play goal to even things at one. After working it around the perimeter, Jon Booras had his shot redirected past Shane Owen by Walker at 11:45. The Mavericks re-gained the lead at 15:34 with a goal from Colt King, which was his first of two in the period. His second came at 19:11 after catching a John-Scott Dickson pass as the trailer in the slot and found the net to increase the lead to 3-1 with a power play goal.
Missouri added one more in the final 20 minutes on the power play. After a clearing attempt was kept in, Sebastien Thinel found Andrew Courtney on the back door at 11:48. Wichita out-shot the Mavericks 11-3 in the third, but couldn't get another past Owen who pulled out the 4-1 win.
Booras and Martens added assists in the contest. The Thunder fall to 1-4-2 on the road. Jung took the loss stopping 22 of 26 shots. Owen won for the fifth time in five starts stopping 24 of 25 shots.
Wichita went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Mavericks were 2-for-4 with the man advantage.
