Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - Geno Parrish knocked in a Kevin Gardner centering feed with 38.8 seconds remaining in overtime as the Stockton Thunder (17-38-14, 48 points) beat the Fresno Falcons (42-13-14, 98 points) 2-1 in overtime, in front of 6,732 at Stockton Arena on Sunday night.
Parrish's goal, his ninth of the year, helped the Thunder to garner its first win in 10 tries (1-6-3) against the Falcons to close out the 2005-06 season series. Stockton is now unbeaten in seven of its last eight games (4-1-3).
Both teams battled through a scoreless first period, with goaltenders Jake Moreland recording 15 saves for the Thunder, countered by Fresno goaltender Jamie Holden's 13 saves.
The tight play continued into the second period until Shawn Weiman broke through for Fresno, converting an errant centering pass and squeezing a dribbling 15-foot shot past Moreland at the 18:29 mark for a 1-0 Falcons lead.
The Thunder evened the score 2:33 into the third period when Aaron Foster netted Stockton's first goal of the game with an assist from Gardner, as Foster banged home a shot in the low slot after Holden was caught wandering out of his net.
After misfiring on a power play early in overtime, the Thunder prevailed when Parrish slipped Gardner's left circle feed past Holden's glove from in close.
Gardner and Foster each picked up an assist on the game winning goal by Parrish, as Gardner has now picked up four points in the last two games, with one goal and three assists. Foster's goal was his fourth in the last three games. Moreland stopped 41 of 42 shots on the night.
The Thunder continues its season-ending four-game homestand with a Wednesday 7 p.m. PT game against the Alaska Aces at Stockton Arena. The game can be heard live on the internet (free-of-charge) and is available for viewing at a $6 "pay-per-view" rate at www.stocktonthunder.com, courtesy of B-2 Networks.
