Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Bombers took an early 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game, but Toledo would answer back with three of their own in the first to lead it 3-1 after one.

Coming off of their uplifting victory over the first place Reading Royals, the Bombers took to the ice against the Toledo Storm for the final time in 2005-2006.

Kyle Musselman (7) gave the Bombers an early 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at the 1:33 mark of the first period. Musselman then followed that up with a fight against Storm forward Robert Snowball which seemed to have give momentum right back to Toledo.

Bracken Kearns would tie up the game on the power play off of a wrist shot from the right wing circle to make it 1-1 at the 5:07 mark of the first period.

Just over a minute later, Toledo took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Matt Zultek at the 6:09 mark of the first period. Zultek would pick up his second of the game and of the period on the power play to increase the lead to 3-1 at the 8:38 mark.

Penalties continued to be the story for both teams, not only in the first, but in the second period as well. Whether or not both teams were afraid of getting more penalties, or Toledo was content with their two goal lead, not much offense happened on either side of the puck and the game remained 3-1 Toledo after forty minutes of play.

It took the Bombers a little bit of time to get things going in the third period, but once they did they found themselves right back in the hockey game.

Mark Flood (11) cut the lead to one with a power play goal on a shot from the left wing circle that went past Toledo starter Bryan Worosz, assists to Dan Knapp (1) and Alex Johnstone (13) at the 9:43 mark in the third period.

Thriving off of the power play goal, trailing only by one (3-2) the Bombers had a number of scoring chances as the third period winded down and the best chance once again would go to Flood.

With the clock ticking away, desperately trying to tie it up and send the game into overtime, the Bombers pulled starter Mike Ayers for the extra attacker. By doing this they were able to keep control in the Toledo zone and with the crowd reminding their team that time was running out, they frantically threw the puck at the Storm net.

Flood, pinching down form the high slot was able to let one go with a number of bodies in front, Worosz knocked it down and left a rebound, but time had run out before Flood and the Bombers could find the loose puck near the crease, final score Toledo 3, Dayton 2.

The Bombers continue their 15th Anniversary season at home this Saturday April 8, as the Wheeling Nailers enter the Miami Valley for the final time in the 2005-2006 season at 7:00 PM at the EJ Nutter Center.
