Stockton Thunder News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach Ice Dogs (36-25-9, 81 points) forward Sean McAslan posted a hat trick while center Cory Urquhart nailed a game-winning overtime goal 25 seconds into the extra period, sending the Stockton Thunder (16-38-13, 46 points) to a 5-4 overtime loss before 3,887 at Long Beach Arena on Saturday.

Urquhart's goal completed a three-goal comeback for Long Beach, converting a one-timer at the right circle that beat Thunder goaltender Jeff Weber past his glove side.

The Thunder started the game with a three-goal outburst through the first 23 minutes, beginning with Ned Havern's marker to make it 1-0 only 4:07 into the game, slipping a sharp-angle bid from the right circle through Ice Dogs goaltender Greg Hewitt's legs. Kevin Gardner hiked the Thunder lead to 2-0 at the 10:10 mark, beating Hewitt over his right shoulder on a 2-on-1 odd-man break.

Aaron Foster pushed the lead to 3-0 at the 3:02 mark of the second period, netting a one-timer in the mid-slot from a Mike Lalonde feed. Long Beach immediately pulled Hewitt in favor of Olivier Michaud, and responded 1:46 later with McAslan's first goal, converting from the left wing. The Ice Dogs tightened the gap to 3-2 with 4:45 left in the period, when Mac Faulkner netted a one-timer from in-close on a Lucas Lawson centering feed.

McAslan then completed his hat trick with Long Beach's first two goals of the third period to give Long Beach its first lead at 4-3, beginning at the 2:05 mark on an errant deflection in the goal crease. Nearly three minutes later, McAslan zoomed down the left wing and beat Weber through the five-hole for his third goal.

Stockton fought back to knot the game at the 10:02 mark, when Havern collected his second goal of the game on a deflection in-close after Kevin Gardner's attempted tip from Jeff Lang's point shot was blocked.

Urquhart then sealed the game on a power play goal in overtime.

Havern's two goals gave the Thunder left wing nine points in his last four games, while the Thunder is now unbeaten in six of its last seven games (3-1-3).

Stockton finishes the 2005-06 road campaign at 10-21-5.
