
Thunder Get Win for Gallagher in Return to Bench

HARLINGEN - In Al Gallagher's first game as the manager of the McAllen Thunder, his team beat his former team, the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, 13-3 in seven innings Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday at Harlingen Field.
Gallagher had been the WhiteWings' bench coach since July 9. He managed the Coastal Bend Thunder the last two seasons, compiling a 70-100 record that included a playoff berth in 2009.
The Thunder (24-33) scored three runs in the first off of Eddie Dennis Jr. (1-1). Antoin Gray led off with a single, moved to second on a ground out and scored on a single by Wilson Batista. Brian Nichols followed with his second home run of the season.
The Thunder loaded the bases with one out in the top of the second. Yaibel Tamayo hit a two-run single to knock out Dennis and Batista hit a two-run double off of Danny Rondon to make it 7-0.
Batista added another RBI-single during a two-run fourth as Batista finished 3-for-4 with four RBI.
The WhiteWings (31-26) got their first two runs in the bottom of the fourth against Frank James Jr. (3-1) on Leivi Ventura's 12th home run of the season. Ventura hit a two-run home run in the seventh as well.
Jesse Orosco made his WhiteWings debut by getting a double play to escape a jam in the fourth. He allowed an unearned run in the fifth and two runs while recording two outs in the sixth. Six of the seven outs Orosco recorded were on groundballs. The other was a strikeout.
The WhiteWings and Thunder play Game 2 of this doubleheader in approximately 30 minutes. Right-hander Alexander Concepcion (4-4, 7.01) is expected to face right-hander Alien Mora (0-1, 8.35).
