
Thunder Get 1st Win, 4-2 Over Bowie

(Trenton, NJ)- Jeff Marquez worked five innings to earn the win in his Double-A debut as Trenton downed the Bowie Baysox, 4-2, on Friday night at Waterfront Park.
Trenton (1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd Inning. 1B Cody Ehlers led off with a walk and scored on a two-out double by 2B Carlos Mendoza. The Thunder added three more runs off Bowie starter Chris Waters in the 5th Inning. Trenton took advantage of three walks, a hit batter and an error in the inning to score their runs. Waters (0-1) allowed four runs (three earned) in 4 1/3 innings in the loss.
Marquez (1-0) didn't allow a hit in his first five innings, but ran into some trouble working in the sixth. The first three batters of the inning reached base to finish Marquez's night. He was charged with two runs on two hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Bowie (1-1) closed the gap to 4-2 with a two-run single by LF Jeff Fiorentino.
Jeff Kennard and Kevin Whelan each followed with two scoreless innings of relief to secure the victory with Whelan striking out five to notch his 1st save.
