
Thunder falls to SeaWolves, 7-2

(Erie, PA)- Erie starter Eddie Bonine held the Thunder to run over seven innings and CF Clete Thomas added three hits, including a home run, in the SeaWolves' 7-2 win over the Thunder on Saturday night.
Erie (39-33) took the lead in the 1st inning against Trenton starter Brett Smith. Thomas started the innings with a walk and then stole 2nd Base. He scored later in the inning gon a hit by DH Jackson Melian. The SeaWolves then added solo homers from Thomas and Melian for a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Bonine got off to a hit start, retiring the first nine Thunder hitters of the game. But Trenton (47-25) got a run in the 4th Inning on three singles, the last being an RBI hit by from RF Matt Carson. Bonine (6-4) recorded 15 ground ball outs in the game. He allowed one run and three hits over seven innings for the win.
Trenton closed to within 4-2 in the top of the eighth thanks to an RBI hit from CF Brett Gardner, but Erie plated three more runs in the bottom half to break the game open. The loss was taken by Smith (6-3), who allowed four runs and six hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out seven.
Trenton and Erie meet on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM.Jeff Marquez (8-3, 2.70) starts for the Thunder against the SeaWolves Matt Righter (2-1, 1.86).
