Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
The Binghamton Mets had an early lead, but the Harrisburg Senators pushed across the winning run in the eighth inning for a 4-3 victory at NYSEG Stadium Saturday. The B-Mets have lost four straight.
Binghamton (30-40) scored single runs in the first two innings. After Harrisburg starter Collin Balester retired the first two hitters in the opening inning, Fernando Martinez doubled to left before Mike Carp chased him in with a two-base hit to right. The B-Mets got another two-out run in the second when J.E. Cruz doubled, pitcher Jose Sanchez walked and Corey Coles singled to right, scoring Cruz, for a 2-0 B-Mets lead.
Harrisburg (27-47) took advantage of Sanchez's wildness during a three-run third. The righthander walked three of the first four hitters in the inning, loading the bases with one out for Dan Dement, who singled in two. Frank Diaz drove in another run with a two-out single to right for a 3-2 Harrisburg advantage.
The B-Mets rallied to tie in the sixth. After Drew Butera led off with a single, Balester walked Mark Kiger. Two batters later, pinch-hitter Brett Harper singled off reliever Jonathan Albaladejo, scoring Butera with the tying run.
B-Mets reliever Robert Paulk (2-2) retired the first four hitters he faced before Diaz hit a one-out triple in the eighth. Seth Bynum followed with a single through the drawn-in infield that scored Diaz with the winning run.
Albaladejo (3-2) pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings for the win.
Sunday, the B-Mets play the third game of their four-game series against the Harrisburg Senators. Marcos Carvajal (1-5, 4.70) gets the start for the B-Mets against Dan Foli (0-1, 7.54) of Harrisburg. Game time is 1:05 from NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 12:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
Notes: Dement has driven in seven of Harrisburg's 13 runs in the series...the B-Mets fell to 10 games below .500 for the first time since they were 10-20 after winning on 5/10...Butera has hits in each of his first two games with the B-Mets...Sanchez has worked at least six innings and given up three runs or fewer in his last four starts, all of which have been no-decisions.
