Trenton Thunder News Release

(Trenton, NJ)- David Smith's two-run homer in the 11th Inning gave New Hampshire a 7-5 win over the Trenton Thunder on Sunday afternoon. Trenton allowed a season-high four homers in the loss.

New Hampshire (49-43) started quickly as SS Manny Mayorson hit the second pitch of the game over the left field wall for a home run. The Fisher Cats then took advantage of a Trenton error in the 3rd inning before 3B Rob Cosby launched a three-run homer off Horne for a 4-0 lead. LF Ryan Patterson added solo homer in the 4th Inning for a 5-0 lead. Horne (9-4) was charged with five runs (two earned) in four innings. Meanwhile, New Hampshire starter Kyle Yates worked out of trouble all game long. He tossed 6 2/3 shutout innings, but allowed seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

The Thunder (59-33) came back with five runs in the 8th Inning to tie the game. Their first two runs scored with the bases loaded on a walk and a hit batsman. A two-run double by 3B Carlos Mendoza made it a 5-4 game. Trenton added a sacrifice fly from Colin Curtis that tied the game at 5-5.

But in the 11th inning, Trenton reliever Justin Pope allowed a leadoff single to 1B Chip Cannon. Two batters later, Smith homered over the left field wall for the game-winner. Pope (1-1) took the loss allowing two runs in three innings of relief. The win went to Jesse Carlson (7-1), who blanked the Thunder over 2 1/3 innings.

The Thunder begin a three-game series with Binghamton on Monday. Game time is 7:05 PM. Jeff Marquez (9-5, 3.18) starts for Trenton against Binghamton's Michael Devaney (3-7, 5.21).
