New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Trenton, NH - David Smith hit a two-run homer in the top of the 11th inning off Trenton's Justin Pope (1-1) to give the Fisher Cats a 7-5 win and a split of the four-game series between the Northern Division's two top teams.

Smith's homer, the RELCO Enlightening Play of the Game, followed a single by Chip Cannon, and made a winner out of Jesse Carlson (7-1), who pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

New Hampshire (49-43) hit three home runs in the first four innings, opening a 5-0 lead and chasing Trenton (59-33) starter Alan Horne. Manny Mayorson's first of the season led off the game, Rob Cosby hit a three-run shot in the third, and Ryan Patterson hit a solo shot in the fourth.

Kyle Yates worked 6.2 scoreless innings for the Fisher Cats in his best effort in nearly a month. He allowed 7 hits, walked two and struck out seven.

New Hampshire was leading 5-0 in the bottom of the 8th when Trenton scored its five runs. Seth Overbey walked Bronson Sardinha with the bases loaded, then hit Dan Conway. After Tracy Thorpe threw just two pitches, he left with an apparent injury, and Sean Stidfole was brought on to face Carlos Mendoza with the bases loaded. Mendoza doubled, making it 5-4. After Gabe Lopez was walked intentionally, Colin Curtis hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

With two on in the 9th inning, Carlson was brought on to strike out Mendoza to force extra innings.

Neither club threatened in the tenth, but New Hampshire went in front on Smith's homer. Carlson retired the side in order in the bottom of the 11th.
