Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Mike Carp drove in all three of the Binghamton Mets' runs in a 3-1 victory over the Connecticut Defenders at Dodd Stadium Sunday. The win is Binghamton's third straight.

The B-Mets (40-51) didn't trail after scoring twice against Garrett Broshius in the first. Corey Coles hit the game's first pitch into center for a single. Two batters later, Mark Kiger singled before Carp doubled to right, scoring Coles and Kiger for a 2-0 B-Mets lead.

Connecticut (39-54) didn't get to B-Mets starter Marcos Carvajal until the fourth. Jake Wald hit a one-out single, stole second and scored on a two-out error by leftfielder Brett Harper, pulling the Defenders within a run. That unearned run was the only tally allowed by Carvajal (4-6) over seven innings.

Defenders reliever Joe Bateman replaced Broshuis (2-10) in the eighth. He began the frame by walking Coles who was bunted to second by Drew Butera before Kiger's groundout advanced him to third. Carp drove Coles in with a base hit up the middle.

Joe Serfass and Lino Urdaneta combined for two hitless innings of relief, with Urdaneta pitching a scoreless ninth for his first save in as many chances.

Monday, the Binghamton Mets begin a three-game series in Trenton against the Thunder. Michael Devaney (3-7, 5.21) will start for the B-Mets against Jeff Marquez (9-5, 3.18) of Trenton. Game time is 7:05 from Waterfront Park with the radio broadcast starting at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: Binghamton's 7-6 in their 13 games in July, all of which have been decided by two runs or fewer...Kiger's scored a run in six straight games.
