BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Bloomington PrairieThunder snapped a four-game winless streak with a 3-1 victory over the Flint Generals at U.S. Cellular Coliseum before 2,891 people Friday night in International Hockey League action.
The triumph moved the PrairieThunder's record to 10-7-1-2 (23 points) ahead of Saturday's 7:05 p.m. home game against Quad City. Flint dropped to 6-14-1-2 (15 points).
Brett Holmberg got the PrairieThunder on the scoreboard first with a goal midway through the first period off assists by Bill Bagron and Robin Gomez.
Zac Pearson scored what proved to be the winning goal with 6:22 remaining in the second period on assists by Jason Lepine and Bagron.
Flint cut its deficit in half with a goal by Alec Kirschner 70 seconds into the third period off assists by Tony Tuzzolino and Craig Cescon. The PrairieThunder put the game away with 25 seconds remaining on an empty net unassisted goal by Craig Macdonald.
Bloomington outshot the Generals, 34-29, with Andrew Martin earning the win in net for Bloomington, stopping 28 of 29 shots. Rob Nolan was the losing goalie.
