Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL - The host Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, Friday night came from behind to equalize on three separate occasions only to suffer a wild 7-5 loss to the Dayton Gems as Dan Lapointe scored the game winning power play goal- his second goal of the night- at 11:01 of the third period.

Lapointe's drive from the right wing circle snapped a 5-5 tie and gave the Gems' their third lead of the third period. After Dayton survived late Mallard extra attacker pressure, Tim Hartung capped off the Gems' win by rolling the puck into the empty Quad City net with just one second left on the clock.

The third period fireworks had started early as Matt Auffrey fired the puck in from the high slot to break a 3-3 deadlock just 47 seconds into the period. At 5:42 of the third Chris Lipsett evened the score again and kick-started a run of three goals in one minute and 26 seconds with his own blast from the high slot. Just 43 seconds later Lapointe's tip-in put Dayton right back on top. The Mallards waited only a further 43 seconds before knotting the game at five when Juris Stals pounced on a loose puck in the crease, but Quad City would later prove unable to rebound from a third third period deficit.

The Mallards also spent much of the first two periods fighting from behind. The Gems first got the jump on Quad City by scoring twice in under two minutes early in the opening period. Preston Briggs snuck the opening goal inside the short side post 3:18 into the game. At 5:11 Sam Bloom's solo rush made it 2-0.

The Mallards were on the power play when Terry Harrison (one goal and two assists) scored from the doorstep to get Quad City on the scoreboard for the first time at 15:26 of the first.

The Gems would re-establish a two goal lead just one minute and forty-two seconds into the second period on a fine individual rush by Chris Myhro.

Jacques Perreault's one timer narrowed the gap to 3-2 at 7:43 of the second and A.J. Bozoian snapped home a tying power play goal at the 11:39 mark, but the Mallards never would be able to forge in front themselves.
