Port Huron Icehawks News Release
PORT HURON, MI - Nick Lindberg and Brandon Naurato both scored in a shootout on Friday to lead the Port Huron Icehawks to a 4-3 win over the Muskegon Lumberjacks at McMorran Arena. With the win, the Icehawks extend their overall winning streak to three games and their home winning streak to four games.
The win breaks Port Huron's four game losing streak versus Muskegon this season. The second place Icehawks improve to 14-6-0-1 with 29 points in the International Hockey League standings and move within two points of the first place Lumberjacks, who are 14-4-0-3 with 31 points.
After playing a back-and-forth game all night, the Icehawks dominated the shootout period. Icehawks goalie Adam Russo stopped Robin Bouchard and Todd Robinson on their attempts, while Naurato and Lindberg both scored for the win.
The Lumberjacks took an early lead thanks to a goal from Brian Bicek at 1:37 in the first period. J.T. Dahlinger and Adam Welch assisted on the play. The Icehawks evened the score midway through the period with a goal from defenseman Rob Cowan, his first goal of the season, at 10:41. He was assisted by Lindberg and Kevin Hansen. The Icehawks outshot the Lumberjacks 14-7 in a penalty ridden period that saw two fights and 13 total penalties.
The two teams traded goals again in the second period. Muskegon regained the lead with a David Rohlfs goal at 5:40. He was assisted by Dahlinger. The Icehawks fired back before the end of the period when Derek Patrosso beat goalie Sebastien Centomo at 15:53. Lindberg and Mickael Bedard were credited with the assists. The Lumberjacks outshot the Icehawks 9-7 in the second period.
Jason Selleke scored his first goal of the season at 3:45 in the third period on assists from Cowan and Brandon Naurato to give the Icehawks a temporary 3-2 lead. The advantage was short lived, however, as Bouchard tied the game less than three minutes later with a goal on assists from Robinson and Damian Surma.
Both teams were scoreless on the power play in a game that saw the whistle blow for 21 penalties and 76 total penalty minutes. Port Huron goalie Russo earned his eighth win of the season with 27 saves on 30 shots. Muskegon's Centomo made 26 saves on 29 shots.
The Icehawks return to action tomorrow night when they host the Fort Wayane Komets on Teddy Bear Toss night. Bring a bear or buy one during the game to toss onto the ice after the Icehawks first goal. All proceeds benefit the Salvation Army.
