Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (December 29th) - For the second-straight night, Wichita (11-14-4) mounted a third-period comeback Sunday afternoon to take down the St. Charles Chill (7-19-4) by the final of 5-2 at INTRUST Bank Arena. Jon Madden and Jesse Dudas sparked a four-goal final period while Jon Booras finished with a goal and an assist. Wichita wins the regular season series 3-1-1 over the Chill and moves eight points clear of St. Charles in eighth place.
With a little over a minute remaining in the first period, St. Charles grabbed a 1-0 lead when Anthony Perdicaro caused a turnover behind the Thunder net, fed a pass to the slot for Andrew Conboy who beat Taylor Nelson to the blocker side.
The Chill added to its lead in the second when Perdicaro wristed a shot from the right circle that got through traffic and beat Nelson at 15:29. Two minutes later, a collision between Madden and Conboy occurred as the two were heading for a loose puck in the Thunder end. Conboy lost an edge, took a hard fall into the end boards and had to be helped to the locker room. Immediately after, the official gave the Chill a bench minor for abuse of officials and Wichita made them pay. Ian Lowe kick-started the Thunder rally with a goal at 17:56 from the slot cutting the lead to 2-1 on the power play.
Similar to last night, Wichita took the ice for the final period trailing 2-1. It wouldn't take the Thunder long to even the score. Madden caught a pass on a two-on-one from Nick McParland and beat Linus Lundin 33 seconds in. Jesse Dudas potted the game-winner at 11:15 on the power play as he one-timed a laser past Lundin's glove to the upper corner. At 16:41, Matt Summers picked off a cross-ice pass and buried it to increase the lead to 4-2. Booras tallied an empty-netter with less than 30 seconds remaining to help the Thunder come away with a 5-2 decision.
Wichita earns six points on the weekend. The Thunder pushes its winning streak to four-straight, which is a season-high while the Chill have lost six in a row. Matt Robinson had an assist to push his point-streak to six games (4g, 9a). Booras also extended his point-streak to six games with his two-point outing (5g, 7a). Dudas (8g, 16a) moves into a first-place tie with Andrew Martens (5g, 19a) in the scoring race for blue liners. Nelson earns his eighth win of the season, stopping 19 of 21 shots. Wichita went 2-for-5 on the power play. St. Charles was 0-for-4.
