Thunder add Walsh from Tampa

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that INF Nick Walsh has been assigned to the team from the Charleston RiverDogs (Single-A) of the South Atlantic League. That addition fills the Thunder roster to the league-mandated limit of 23 players.

Walsh has spent most of the year with Tampa, but appeared in one game for the Thunder against the Harrisburg Senators (July 2nd) and collected three hits. He has played in 26 games for Tampa with a .227 BA, 1 HR, 5 RBI, including a five-game hit streak (May 3-11) in which he went 8-for-19 (.421 BA) at the plate with four runs scored. Walsh had also played eight games most recently for the RiverDogs with a .192 BA, 0 HR and 1 RBI.

Walsh played four years at Arizona State University, where he was named Honorable Mention Pac-10 on two occasions. He had a .353 BA during his junior year to help Sun Devils to NCAA Regionals. That season saw Walsh go 6-for-6, 5 R, 7 RBI in a game against Washington State University (4/7/03). He is a graduate of DeLaSalle H.S. (Concord, CA) and twice in high school had games where he went 8-for-8. His brothers, Christopher (U.C.-Davis) and Patrick (San Jose State, Univ. of Texas), both played college baseball.

The Thunder continues their series with Bowie tonight at Waterfront Park. Game time is 7:05 PM. Trenton is in 3rd Place and just 2 ½ games behind the Portland Sea Dogs for the top spot in the Northern Division. Charlie Isaacson (5-3, 2.72) starts for Trenton against the Baysox LHP Richard Stahl (0-3, 3.84).
