Yusmeiro Petit struck out eight in seven innings and three different players had three-hit games for the Binghamton Mets, who beat the Reading Phillies 9-2 at NYSEG Stadium Saturday. Binghamton's won its last two games and has taken two of the first three games in the series.
After Reading (44-50) went ahead on a Ryan Fleming homer in the first, the B-Mets (42-47) scored three times in the second off Reading's Keith Bucktrot. Brett Harper led off with a single and Bobby Malek and Jay Caligiuri followed with walks, loading the bases. Two batters later, Petit grounded out to score Harper, with Malek coming home on an error for the lead. Up came Lastings Milledge, who singled to right-center, plating Caligiuri and putting the B-Mets up 3-1.
A Randy Ruiz homer off Petit (4-2) brought Reading within 3-2, but the B-Mets scored three more runs in the fifth, chasing Bucktrot (2-2). With one out, Aarom Baldiris singled and scored when Mike Jacobs followed with a double. After Harper singled to move Jacobs to third, Bobby Malek drove in Jacobs with a single to right. Two batters later, Bacani doubled down the rightfield line, scoring Harper for a 6-2 advantage.
The B-Mets would score three more times in the seventh, loading the bases with no out on singles by Harper and Malek and a walk to Caligiuri. Next up was Bacani, who doubled to left-center for two runs. Two batters later, Milledge lofted a sacrifice fly to center to score the game's final run. Sunday, the B-Mets wrap up their series with Reading, sending Orlando Roman (3-3, 4.66) to the hill against lefty Allen Davis (8-4, 3.43) of Reading.
