Lake County Fielders News Release
Zion, IL - The Lake County Fielders (37-48) and Schaumburg Flyers (32-52) produced some fireworks of their own on Friday night where the Fielders came out on top 13-12 on Sports Physical Therapy and Rehab Specialists Fireworks Night in Zion.
The Fielders saw a 12-4 lead diminish as the Flyers proved persistent, outscoring Lake County 8-1 in the final three innings of the game.
The Fielders took an eight run lead in their half of the fifth when they sent 11 batters to the plate to score six runs off three hits. The Fielders loaded the bases and Anthony Esquer drew a walk to bring Brian McFall in from third. Kyle Higgins then delivered his third RBI of the game, a two-run double that chased Matt Elliot from the mound. Kevin Haas came up with a two-run RBI of his own and Josh Short hit an RBI sacrifice fly to score Valdes who reached on a walk.
Schaumburg's come back started in the seventh as they plated four runs to cut the Fielders' lead to five runs. Ruddy Yan and Travis Brown came up with consecutive singles and Kit Pellow and Mario Delgado delivered back-to-back home runs to make the score 13-8. They continued the rally into the eighth, after Ryan Falcon loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Chris Kelly then came in and walked-in a run and gave up a two-RBI single before retiring the next three batters.
Jeff Dunbar came in from the bullpen to protect the Fielders 13-11 lead in the ninth. Tom Fitzgerald hit an RBI triple that scored Dylan Parzyk and put the tying run on third. Yan hit a ball that bounced past Kevin Haas back to shortstop Higgins who threw out Fitzgerald trying to score from third. Brandon Newton hit into a fielder's choice and Dunbar struck out Travis Brown to save the game and lead the Fielders to the 13-12 victory.
In the top of the second, Adam Hale came to the plate and launched a lead off homerun deep over the right field bleachers. Anthony Esquer kept the offense rolling with a double and was brought around on a RBI double from Kyle Higgins. Valdes followed that up with an RBI double of his own to score Higgins, making it the second night in a row the Fielders delivered three doubles in one inning.
Lake County's offense stayed hot in the third inning after Brian McFall lifted his 16th home run of the year; a two-run shot that scored Josh Short who had reached with a lead off single. Mike Busch decided to pull Aaron Guinn at that point after he had given up eight hits and six runs, all earned. Matt Elliot came in and retired the next three batters he faced.
Five Fielders had a multiple-RBI game. Higgins was two-for-three with three RBI.
John Brownell (3-7) took the win for the Fielders, throwing six innings and giving up seven hits, four runs (three earned) while striking out two and issuing zero walks.
The Fielders look for their third straight win over the Flyers. Lake County will send RHP Garry Bakker opposite LHP Alain Quijano.
