RiverHawks Add Former Big-Leaguer

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks have signed veteran outfielder Victor Diaz, a former major-leaguer.

Diaz, a career .289 hitter, will join Rockford for the playoff push. The RiverHawks are two games behind fourth-place Joliet for the final Northern League playoff spot.

Diaz hit .298 with 29 home runs and 96 RBI in 105 games this summer for Veracruz of the Mexican League. He was named a Mexican League all-star.

Diaz was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 37th round in 2000. He was traded to the New York Mets in July 2003 and made his major-league debut September 11, 2004. Diaz spent parts of four seasons in the major leagues, three with the Mets and one with Texas. In 147 MLB games, Diaz hit .256 with 24 home runs and 73 RBI.

The nine-year veteran has a lifetime minor-league average of .293 and has hit 115 homers and 540 RBI. He has played in the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Texas, Houston, Seattle, and Baltimore organizations.

The RiverHawks begin a six-game road trip to Gary and Winnipeg. The next home game is Thursday, August 26 when they host Kansas City at 7:05 p.m.
