CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers pounded out 13 hits, but left 12 men on base in the 10-6 defeat to the Charlotte Stone Crabs Wednesday afternoon at Bright House Field, splitting the four-game series.

Clearwater (13-19) jumped out to an early lead by plating three runs in the second.

Roman Quinn's sac fly with the bases loaded and one out brought in Harold Martinez from third and Angelo Mora extended the lead to three with a triple to right-center to score Gabriel Lino and Everett Williams.

Art Charles added an RBI single in the fourth to give the Threshers a 4-0 lead for starter Colin Kleven.

The Threshers' hurler was perfect through the first two innings before allowing a one-out single to Jonathan Quinonez. The right-hander was in control through the first four frames, striking out five Stone Crabs and giving up just three hits.

Charlotte (12-20) broke through against Clearwater in the fifth with a two-run shot by Quinonez to cut the Threshers' lead to 4-2. The Stone Crabs knocked Kleven out of the game in the sixth after Leonardo Reginatto was hit by a pitch and Patrick Leonard singled to start the inning.

Cody Forsythe (1-1) came on in relief and allowed the inherited runners to score on a single to Tyler Goeddel, tying the game at four.

The Stone Crabs took the lead in the sixth with a three-run homer by Justin O'Connor.

Charlotte would tack on to its lead with three more runs in the seventh and one each in the eighth and ninth.

Lino sent a two-run rocket over the left-field wall in the seventh to pull Clearwater within two at 8-6. The Threshers' catcher went 3-for-4 with the home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.

The Threshers will take to the road as they battle the Jupiter Hammerheads Thursday night for the first of an eight-game road trip against Florida State League South opponents. Game one is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start time.
