Wichita, KS (March 6th) - The Central Hockey League announced today the five finalists for several year-end awards that included three Thunder players being nominated. Torrie Jung, Kevin Young and Greger Hanson were chosen as candidates for Most Outstanding Goaltender, Most Outstanding Defenseman and Rookie of the Year Honors. The finalists were determined by the league front office after a nomination period by CHL teams. Balloting will take place among CHL Head Coaches, team Communication Departments and select media members in the CHL markets to determine the winners.
Jung was named as one of the finalists for Most Outstanding Goaltender Award (Scott Brower Award) along with Tim Boron of Rapid City, Aaron Dell of Allen, Kieran Millan of Denver and Kristofer Westblom of Fort Worth. Jung recently earned his 18th win of the year, which is a new personal best.
Young has been floating near the top of the leaderboard for scoring by a blue liner and was honored with a nomination for Most Outstanding Defenseman with Quad City's Matt Duffy, Tyler Ludwig of Allen, Missouri's Dave Pszenyczny and Fort Worth's Ross Rouleau.
Hanson, who has missed the past few weeks due to injury, came storming out of the gates and earned the final nomination for a Thunder player. The other finalists for Rookie of the Year honors are Aaron Dell of Allen, Quad City's Mike Hellyer, Missouri's Kenton Miller, and Sy Nutkevitch of Fort Worth.
Additional awards to be determined include Coach of the Year, Equipment Manager of the Year and Athletic Trainer of the Year, as determined by their CHL peers, along with six member All-CHL and All-Rookie teams (voted on by CHL Head Coaches).
