Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (March 7th) - For the past few seasons, Wichita Thunder Alumni join together for one night to pay tribute to the fans. Today, the Wichita Thunder announced the roster for the Alumni team that will face a group of All-Stars from the men's league before Saturday's meeting against the Tulsa Oilers.
Highlighting the group will be Joe Blaznek and Ryan McLean, who will drop the ceremonial face-off later that night. Blaznek spent four seasons in Wichita from 2003-07. His best year was 2005-06 when he racked up 100 points (44g, 56a). Blaznek ranks fourth in Thunder history in points (249), goals (117), power play goals (41), third in shorthanded goals (15) game-winning goals (30). The Detriot, Michigan native earned the nickname Smokin' Joe for his rocket slap shot. He went on to play three seasons with Bossier-Shreveport and finished his career in Quad City before hanging up the skates in 2010-11.
McLean played five season in Wichita, collecting at least 170 penalty minutes each year. He is the all-time leader in penalty minutes in Thunder history (1,094) and fourth all-time in games played (297), playing from 2002-07. The Brandon, Manitoba native had 31 points (15g, 16a) in 2005-06, which was his best statistical season.
