Three Silvertip Prospects Named to Hockey Alberta U16 Shortlist

RED DEER, Albe. - Three Silvertip draft picks have been included on Hockey Alberta's 32-player shortlist to represent the province at the 2023 WHL Cup.

Among the selectees are forward Owen Cooper ('08), forward Rhys Jamieson ('08) and goaltender Finn Werner ('08).

Cooper, a Calgary native, was selected 114th-overall in the sixth round of the 2023 WHL Draft. He skated in 22 games for Edge School U15 Prep last season, logging 14 goals and 23 assists. He also contributed seven playoff points in four appearances.

Jamieson, from Calgary, was picked 32nd-overall in the second round of the 2023 WHL Draft. A 2022-23 AEHL U15 Second-Team All-Star, he led the Calgary Bisons U15 AAA in scoring with 34 goals and 37 assists in 34 games played with an additional 17 points in nine postseason outings. He also participated in the 2023 Alberta Cup with Team Green.

Werner, from St. Albert, earned AEHL U15 Top Goaltender honors in 2022-23. He posted a 21-1-0 record with a 2.23 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage. He was also an AEHL U15 First-Team All-Star. Werner was drafted by the Silvertips 54th-overall in the third round of the 2023 Draft. He previously represented his province at the 2023 Alberta Cup on Team Gold.

The WHL Cup will run from October 17-22 in Red Deer with participating teams from Alberta, B.C., Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
