Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Three late runs by the Cedar Rapids Kernels helped them seal the win and claim game two of the quick two game series with Beloit, 8-4. Reliever Jose Lugo picked up the loss for the Snappers going two innings and allowing two earned runs.

The Snappers scored first in the bottom of the first inning. After a two-out walk, David Hernandez was driven home by Chris Parmelee. Parmelee followed Hernandez's two-out walk with a double to right field, giving Beloit the early 1-0 advantage.

Cedar Rapids tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the top of the second and eventually took the lead in the top of the third inning with two more. The two-run third gave the Kernels a 3-1 lead.

The Snappers fought their way back and took the lead back in the bottom of the third inning with three runs of their own. An RBI single from Danny Berg and a two-run double from Matt Betsill gave Beloit a 4-3 lead after three innings.

The game remained a 4-3 Snappers' advantage until the top of the seventh inning. Cedar Rapids got to Beloit reliever Jose Lugo with two runs off a home run from Mark Trumbo. Trumbo's blast scored P.J. Phillips and pushed the Kernels ahead 5-4.

Cedar Rapids added to their lead and gave themselves a bit of a cushion with three runs in the top of the ninth inning off of reliever Dan Leatherman. Leatherman's runs allowed the Kernels to jump ahead by four runs, 8-4.

The Snappers would not score in the bottom of the ninth and went on to drop game two of the two game series, 8-4.

Jose Lugo picked up his sixth loss of the season, a loss that dropped Beloit's second half record to 31-32.
