Durham, NC - A three-run eighth inning sparked a 6-4 Durham Bulls victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox on Thursday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in front of 9,248 fans. Durham improved to 22-26 on the season while Pawtucket falls to 22-24.
Trailing 4-3 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, Reggie Taylor started the inning off with a walk that was followed by a B.J. Upton single to left. Red Sox pitcher Juan Perez walked right fielder Jonny Gomes on the next at-bat to load the bases. After striking out Eric Munson, Perez was replaced by Cla Meredith, who walked Earl Snyder, scoring Taylor to tie the game at four apiece. The Bulls took the lead when Tim Laker hit into a fielder's choice scoring Upton. With the bases loaded, Paul Hoover drew a walk from Meredith to give the Bulls the 6-4 advantage.
Left-handed reliever Joe Beimel (1-1) picked up his first win of the season, pitching one and one-third innings, allowing no hits and no runs while striking out two.
