Danbury Trashers News Release
Despite entering Wednesday's game in Richmond with the lowest ranked power play in the UHL, the Danbury Trashers utilized the man-advantage as they scored three power play tallies to lift themselves to a 5-2 win over the RiverDogs at the Richmond Coliseum.
A relatively slow first period finally opened up as Jeff Daw scored the first of two goals at the 15:33 mark of the period from Brent Gretzky and Doug Christensen for the only goal of the period.
Richmond tied it up on JJ Wrobel's 6th of the season from Jonathan Gagnon at the 9:10 mark of the period, but the Trashers regained the lead for good on Mike Bayrack's 11th of the season at the 15:13 mark from Mario Larocque.
Larocque scored his 2nd of the season on a blast from JF David at the 9:05 mark of the 3rd period, also assisted by Bayrack on the power play. Richmond's David Hymovitz pulled the RiverDogs to a goal at the 13:43 mark on a goal from David Brousseau and Francis Belanger.
The Trashers then pulled away with their 3rd power play goal of the night, this one from Bruce Richardson at the 16:35 mark from John Morlang and Daw. Daw then scored on an empty net from David and Richardson with 1:08 left in the game.
Richardson and Richmond veteran Trevor Senn dropped gloves after the final horn sounded in the only fight of the evening.
Scott Stirling stopped 34 of 36 shots for his 14th win of the season as the Trashers now hold a league-high 35 points on a 17-7-1 record. The Riverdogs fell to 11-10-1 with the loss.
Danbury returns to action on Friday night from Flint at 7:30pm against the Generals. Fans can tune into the webcast with Phil Giubileo at 7:25pm.
