December 8, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) News Release
LAKE ST, LOUIS, MO -- The United Hockey League (UHL) and the Adirondack Frostbite Hockey Club (UHL) announced Monday that Pepsi has been named the title sponsor of the 2005 UHL All-Star Classic.
"This sponsorship is an extension of our ongoing relationship with the UHL and its players and we're looking forward to playing a prominent role in the UHL All-Star Game," said Mike Nast, Sr. National Sales Manager, Pepsi-Cola North America. "The fans will get the unique opportunity to watch their favorite current and retired stars take the ice in what promises to be an exciting event."
For the first time in professional hockey history, the all-star teams will be named after beverages, its title sponsor's brands, Pepsi and Mountain Dew. The teams, selected into two groups, will be divided based upon their geographic location. Pepsi or "Group A" will be comprised of players from the following Eastern teams: Adirondack Frostbite, Danbury Trashers, Elmira Jackals, Flint Generals, Motor City Mechanics, Port Huron Beacons and the Richmond River Dogs. Team Mountain Dew or "Group B" will be comprised of players from the following Western teams: Fort Wayne Komets, Kalamazoo Wings, Kansas City Outlaws, Missouri River Otters, Muskegon Fury, Quad City Mallards and the Rockford IceHogs.
The sixth UHL All-Star Classic will be played at the 4,806-seat Civic Center Plaza in Glens Falls, New York on January 24, 2005.
"We are thrilled to host the 2005 UHL All-Star Classic. The league's best players and best fans will make this a memorable hockey experience," stated Frostbite owner Glenn Morelli.
"The United Hockey League is proud to have Pepsi as the title sponsor for this great event. Our relationship league-wide with Pepsi has been a wonderful partnership for many years. Pepsi's willingness to be part of this event and the UHL is something that we appreciate very much. I know this All-Star Classic will be a great showcase for the league," stated Richard Brosal, President/CEO of the UHL.
The Adirondack Frostbite are enjoying their eighth year as a member of the UHL. The Adirondack franchise changed their name in the summer of 2004 after being purchased by Glens Falls Professional Hockey, LLC (GFPH, LLC). The new ownership group includes ESPN analysts Barry Melrose and Steve Levy as well as Richmond RiverDogs owner Glenn Morelli.
The UHL is celebrating its 14th consecutive season with 14 member clubs, aligned in three divisions and competing in seven states, including the expansion Danbury Trashers (Connecticut), Motor City Mechanics (Michigan) and Kansas City Outlaws (Missouri).
