Three millionth fan tomorrow

(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 1, 2006) - All season long, the Long Island Ducks and Bethpage Federal Credit Union have been counting down to the 3 millionth fan to enjoy Ducks baseball in Central Islip. After tonight's attendance of 5,401, Long Island is now just 4,308 fans away from reaching the magical mark. With a season average of over 5,900 fans a game, the Ducks will welcome their 3 millionth fan tomorrow.

The lucky 3 millionth fan will receive $5,000 from Bethpage Federal Credit Union along with a commemorative "3 Millionth Fan" official Ducks jersey. For the duration of the barrier-breaking game, the Ducks and Bethpage Federal Credit Union will pull out all of the stops for the 3 millionth fan, giving them a most-unique game day experience. To start the celebration, the Ducks will roll out the red carpet, complete with confetti as he/she enters the ballpark. The 3 millionth fan will then head down to the field for the pregame festivities. To cap off the historic evening, the 3 millionth fan's entrance into Citibank Park will be prominently displayed on the Ducks' homepage, www.liducks.com, as the Pic of the Day.

On Friday evening, the Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 3-2 in 10 innings at Citibank Park. With the score tied at two in the top of the 10th, Larry Barnes stole third and scored the winning run on a throwing error by catcher Brad King.

Hector Almonte (3-1) picked up the win after striking out four in two scoreless relief innings. Kevin Tolar (0-1) absorbed the loss after allowing an unearned run in the 10th. Robert Marquez earned his first save of the season after tossing a scoreless inning.

On Saturday, the Ducks and Patriots will play game two of their three game set at 7:05 p.m. That night the Ducks will host their

First Annual Breast Cancer Awareness night. The club has teamed up with over 14 coalitions and organizations to raise Breast Cancer awareness on Long Island. Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, Bethpage Federal Credit Union and Suffolk Medical Imaging, P.C. have signed on as the evening's corporate sponsors and will provide the first 1,000 children 14 and under with copies of Ray Negron's Boy of Steel. They will also provide the first 1,500 adults with commemorative pink T-shirts and the first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive PlayBill programs with information about all of the organizations involved. Chris King and David Weiss will call all the action live from Central Islip starting at 6:50 p.m. on WLIE (540 AM) Radio.
