Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

ABERDEEN, MD--The Tri-City ValleyCats used home runs from Enmanuel Valdez, Michael Wielansky and Carlos Machado to down the Aberdeen Ironbirds 11-5 for their first series victory of the season.

The game, which was started by two players with Major League experience, featured seven combined runs in the first inning.

Right-handed pitcher Chris Tillman started the game for the Ironbirds, beginning his rehab assignment for the Baltimore Orioles.

Right off the bat, Tri-City delivered a rude awakening to Tillman, placing three runs on the board in the first inning, capped by a run-scoring double from Gilberto Celestino.

On the opposite end, RHP Brady Rogers starterd the game for Tri-City on a rehab assignment.

Rogers, who was recovering from Tommy John Surgery and pitching in his first game since April of 2017, gave up four runs in his first inning of work to hand the Ironbirds an early 4-3 lead.

Two innings later, back-to-back home runs by Valdez and Wielanskly gave way to a seven-run third inning to open up the floodgates for Tri-City.

Each team swapped a run in the seventh inning, when outfielder Carlos Machado went deep for his first home run of the season.

Rogers threw two innings to start the game for the ValleyCats, before handing the ball over to RHP Chad Donato.

Donato, who picked up the win on Opening Day for Tri-City was brilliant once again in his second outing of the year.

He used 10 strikeouts to lock down the Ironbirds through the middle portion of the game, only allowing one run.

Devin Conn and Shawn Dubin then made their professional debuts, each hurling a scoreless inning to end the game.

The win advances Tri-City's record to 3-3 on the season, as they head home to begin a three-game series with the Lowell Spinners on Thursday, June 21, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.

It will be Public Safety Awareness Night / 80's Night at the The Joe, where coverage will begin on the Tri-City ValleyCats Radio Network with Steven Cusumano 15 minutes prior to first pitch.
