(PAWTUCKET, RI) -- Home runs from RF Daniel Palka, 3B Matt Skole, and 1B Seby Zavala powered the Charlotte Knights past the Pawtucket Red Sox by a score of 7-5 on Saturday night in game two of their three-game series from McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI. With the win, the Knights evened up the series, 1-1.
Down by a score of 3-0, the Knights began to mount a comeback in the top of the third inning. Palka launched a two-run home run off Pawtucket LHP Kyle Hart (5-4, 3.86), who was charged with the loss. The home run was Palka's 17th of the season with the Knights and it pulled the club to within just one run of the PawSox, 3-2.
Two innings later, the Knights put together their finest inning of the game in the top of the fifth. LF Charlie Tilson tied the game with an RBI single, which scored 2B Danny Mendick. With the game knotted at 3-3, Skole ripped his 21st home run of the season. The three-run homer gave the Knights a 6-3 lead at that point. Zavala added a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning, his 15th of the season.
With the Knights ahead by a score of 7-3, Pawtucket tacked on two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off RHP Connor Walsh. Pawtucket LF Chris Owings recorded a two-run home run off Walsh, which cut the Charlotte lead to just two runs, 7-5.
In the ninth, RHP Thyago Vieira recorded the final three outs to earn his seventh save of the season. It was his team-high 23rd game finished this season.
LHP Kyle Kubat started for the Knights but did not factor in the decision. He allowed three runs on three hits over four innings. LHP Jordan Guerrero (3-7, 7.27) earned the win out of the Charlotte bullpen after he tossed three shutout innings.
The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. Pre-game radio coverage of Sunday's 1:05 p.m. game is set for 12:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and CharlotteKnights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
