Lowell, MA - Chris Minard and Ivan Khomutov both scored twice to pace the Lowell Devils to a 6-4 victory over the Portland Pirates in pre-season action at Tsongas Arena on Friday night.

Khomutov potted his first of the game just over five minutes into the opening stanza to give Lowell the 1-0 advantage. After a Portland tally by Dirk Southern, Lowell jumped back in front 2-1 on Minard's first of the night. He buried a centering feed from rookie Patrick Davis, who maneuvered around a pair of Portland players to set up the tally with just 29 seconds left in the frame.

Lowell scored the only goal of the second period, with Justin Papineau's goal at 6:15. The Devils defense held the Pirates to just four shots in the period.

In the third, Portland climbed within a goal, with a score by Mike Erickson at 9:06. But Khomutov answered just six seconds later, and Minard padded the lead at 14:26 to make it 5-2. A pair of late tallies by the Pirates again made it a one-goal game with just over a minute to play, but Stephen Gionta finished it off with an empty-netter for the Devils. Frank Doyle turned aside 30 shots for the victory in net.

The Lowell Devils will officially drop the puck on their inaugural season in just seven days, when they host the Albany River Rats at Tsongas Arena on Saturday, October 7th. Season tickets are on sale now, with ticket packages starting at just $140.
