SYRACUSE, NY - The Hamilton Bulldogs lost their second preseason game in a row on Friday night as they were defeated 6-4 by the Syracuse Crunch at Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter.
Syracuse took a 2-1 lead in the first period. Joakim Lindstrom opened the scoring for the Crunch at 8:38 of the frame. Hamilton evened the score 1-1 when Kyle Chipchura notched his first goal of the preseason at the 10:42 mark. Then just 52 seconds later, Joe Motzko restored the one-goal lead for the Crunch.
At 10:33 of the second period, Frederic St. Denis notched his second goal of the preseason for the Bulldogs to tie the game 2-2.
The Crunch then took a 4-2 lead with two goals in a span of 3:11 in the second period. Brent Walton posted his first goal of the preseason at 12:42 of the frame to make the score 3-2. Then at 15:53, Adam Pineault made the score 4-2 for the Crunch.
The teams each had two goals in the third period, making the final score 6-4 in favour of Syracuse. Scoring for the Bulldogs in the final frame were Michael Lambert and Mathieu Aubin, while Joe Motzko and Brandon Walton each scored their second goal of the game for Syracuse.
Bulldogs goaltender Cederick Desjardins stopped 28 of the 34 shots he faced and suffered the loss. Crunch netminder Tomas Popperle made 30 saves on 34 shots and earned the victory.
The Bulldogs third pre-season contest is set for Saturday, September 30th at 4:00 p.m., when they will meet the Toronto Marlies at the Southwood Arena at the Woodstock Community Complex in Woodstock, Ontario. The Dogs fourth, and final pre-season match-up is scheduled for Sunday, October 1st at 4:00 p.m., when they will battle the Syracuse Crunch, at Niagara Falls Memorial Arena in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
The Hamilton Bulldogs will open the 2006-2007 season on Friday, October 6th versus their North Division rival, the Manitoba Moose.
