DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars began the home portion of their 2006-07 exhibition season at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday night when they took on the Peoria Rivermen for the second consecutive game. The Stars bounced backed from a 7-3 loss on Tuesday to earn a 4-2 victory Friday.
After a scoreless first period, the Rivermen cracked the scoresheet first when Cam Keith was able to put one behind Iowa goaltender Dan Ellis at 12:50 of the second period. The Stars took just four minutes to even the score. Defenseman Vadim Khomitskiy (va-DEEM khoh-MIHT-skee) registered a power-play goal at 16:58. John Lammers and Marty Wilford picked-up the assists.
Junior Lessard gave the Stars a 2-1 lead when he took a cross-ice feed from Marty Sertich at 1:19 into the third period. Khomitskiy garnered his second point of the game with the second assist. Forward Peter Sejna tied the score at two when he fired a shot stick-side from the top of the slot at 11:46 of the third period. Sertich registered his second point of the game, when he gave the Stars a 3-2 lead with 3:41 remaining in the game. Lessard and goalie Dan Ellis earned the assists. Marius Holtet added some insurance with an empty-net score at 19:43.
Iowa travels to Omaha to take on the Knights for Game Three of the exhibition season on Saturday night. Game time is 7:00 PM. The Stars wrap-up their Training Camp and the exhibition season on Sunday, October 1st against Omaha. The puck drops at 5:05 PM in Downtown Des Moines.
