Three Goal Lead Vanishes in 4-3 Loss to Mallards
November 24, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
MOLINE, IL - A night that began with so much promise for the Tulsa Oilers ended in a 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Quad City Mallards.
Tulsa (6-9-2) scored three goals in the first nine minutes of the first period but couldn't sustain the momentum. Mallards goalie John Murray came off the bench in relief of Jimmy Spratt and completely shut down the Oilers attack over the final two and a half frames.
Ryan Menei's wrist shot put the Oilers out front early and just three minutes later, Gary Steffes buried a one-timer to give Tulsa a two-goal cushion. The visitors led 3-0 after Menei chipped home his own rebound at the 9:09 mark of the first. Mallards head coach Terry Ruskowski lifted Spratt and Quad City began the comeback.
Goals by Mike Stinziani and Patrik Levesque pulled the home side within one after the opening 20 minutes. Levesque, a former Oiler, punched in the equalizer at 7:10 of the second and Brett Robinson provided the go ahead tally. Robinson cut to the Oilers net and after his initial offering was stopped by Ian Keserich, the 5'11" 190-pound forward found the rebound right on his tape. Robinson made no mistake with his second chance and the Mallards fourth unanswered goal would hold up as the eventual game winner.
Murray, who stopped all 27 shots he faced, picked up his fourth victory of the season while Keserich made 33 stops in a losing effort.
The Oilers are now 0-9-2 when trailing after two periods and fell to 3-6-0 away from home.
Tulsa is back in action on Friday, November 30 when the Allen Americans pay a visit to the BOK Center.
