Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (November 24, 2012) - Patrik Levesque scored twice, Brett Robinson provided what proved to be the winning goal and added an assist and John Murray made 27 saves in relief without allowing a goal as the host Quad City Mallards came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Tulsa Oilers 4-3 Saturday night.
Mike Stinziani, who also picked up an assist, kick-started the Mallard comeback and cut the Oiler lead to 3-1 with a breakaway goal at 10:57 of the first period. Levesque tipped in Obi Aduba's shot to trim the margin to 3-2 at 17:10 of the first.
Levesque then provided the equalizer by finishing off a 3-on-1 rush at 7:10 of the second period. Quad City took the lead for the first time when Robinson buried a rebound at 16:58 of the second.
The Mallards found themselves in an early hole after the Oilers struck three times in a span of three minutes and 49 seconds to chase Quad City starting goaltender Jimmy Spratt just over nine minutes into the game. Ryan Menei's goal from the right wing circle opened the Tulsa onslaught at 5:20 of the first period. At 8:04 Gary Steffes swept home Ben Gordon's centering pass to double the lead. 65 seconds later Menei struck again, shoveling a rebound in to widen the gap to 3-0 and end Spratt's evening. However, Murray would stonewall the Oilers the rest of the way to set the stage for the Mallard rally.
The Mallards return to action tomorrow on the road against the Bloomington Blaze. The Mallards next play at home next Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Missouri Mavericks. Next Saturday is also free popcorn night- all fans attending the game will receive a voucher good for one free bag of popcorn.
