Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, are excited to share that three alumni have been named to the U.S. National Team Roster ahead of the 2022 IIHF Men's World Championship. Seth Jones, Caleb Jones and Kieffer Bellows were represented on the 24-man roster announced today.
The 2022 IIHF Men's World Championship is taking place May 13-29 in Tampere and Helsinki, Finland. The U.S. Men's National Team will compete in Group B alongside France, Czech Republic, Finland, Great Britain, Latvia, Norway and Sweden.
The Jones brothers will help lead the charge on the American's blueline after a successful season competing with the Chicago Blackhawks. Seth Jones recorded 51 points in 78 games during his first year with the Blackhawks, his highest offensive totals since the 2017-18 season. Seth Jones, who helped the Winterhawks win their third WHL Championship in 2013, won a bronze medal with the U.S. National Team in 2015 and was named a top three player on that year's national team. The Arlington, Texas native has plenty of international experience, having competed with Team USA at the U17, U18, U20 and World Championship levels.
Caleb Jones joins his brother Seth on the National Team Roster after playing 51 games with Chicago during the regular season. Like Seth, Caleb has also performed well on the international stage, twice winning a gold medal with the U.S. during his junior years. Caleb recorded 117 points in 135 WHL games with Portland from 2015 to 2017 before joining the Edmonton Oilers organization.
Kieffer Bellows is preparing for his first World Championship appearance, having played for Team USA most recently at the 2018 World Juniors. He spent the 2021-22 season as a full-time member of the New York Islanders and recorded 19 points in 45 games. Playing for the Winterhawks during the 2017-18 season, Bellows scored 41 goals and 74 points in 56 games and was over a point-per-game producer in the postseason to help the Winterhawks advance to the Western Conference Semifinals.
Most recently, the U.S. Men's National Team earned a bronze medal in 2021 tournament and finished with an 8-0-0-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record. In total, the U.S. has earned 13 podium finishes, including one gold medal (1933), four silver medals (1950, 1939, 1934, 1931) and eight bronze medals (2021, 2018, 2015, 2013, 2004, 1996, 1952, 1949).
