The Atlanta Thrashers have recalled defenseman ANSSI SALMELA (AN-see sahl-MEHL-ah) from the Chicago Wolves.

SALMELA, who was assigned to the Wolves on March 2, after being acquired by the Thrashers from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for defenseman Niclas Havelid and left wing Myles Stoesz, was held scoreless in two contests with Chicago.

The 24-year-old blueliner appeared in 17 National Hockey League games with New Jersey earlier this season, recording three assists and six penalty minutes. He also tallied eight goals, 16 assists and 24 points in 38 American Hockey League outings with the Lowell Devils during his North American debut this year.

The Nokia, Finland, native, recorded 36 goals, 41 assists and 77 points in 208 career SM-liiga (Finland) games, spanning five season with Tampere Tappara (2003-06, 2007-08) and Lahti Pelicans (2005-07), prior to signing with New Jersey as a free agent on May 30, 2008.

SALMELA also represented Finland in international competition at the 2004 World Junior Championships and 2008 World Championships.
