Portland Thorns FC News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Thorns FC play their fifth straight road match, squaring off against the Washington Spirit on Saturday, May 18, at Maureen Hendricks Field at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. Beginning at 4 p.m. (Pacific), the match features a live stream available on Yahoo! Sports.
Recent form
With a 3-1 win on the road against the Orlando Pride on May 11, Portland (2-0-2, 8pts) extended its regular-season unbeaten streak to nine games (6-0-3), dating back to the 2018 season. Thorns FC have scored two or more goals in eight of their last nine matches and all four of their matches in 2019. Dagny Brynjarsdottir, Andressinha and Caitlin Foord all scored goals in the win against the Pride. Brynjarsdottir and Andressinha each scored their first goals of the season. The goal marked the first of Andressinha's Thorns FC career since joining the club in 2018. Brynjarsdottir scored her first goal for Portland since finding the back of the net against the Western New York Flash on Sept. 11, 2016.
Against Washington
Portland leads the all-time series against the Spirit with a record of 9-2-5, including a record of 4-2-2 in road matches. Thorns FC are unbeaten in their last five matches (4-0-1) against Washington. Portland posted a record of 2-0-1 during the 2018 season, with a pair of 1-0 wins on the road against the Spirit. Ellie Carpenter scored her first career NWSL goal against Washington on May 19, 2018.
Road warriors
Dating back to the conclusion of the 2018 season, Portland is unbeaten in its last six road matches with a mark of 4-0-2. Thorns FC continue their six-game road stretch on Saturday - the longest stretch of consecutive road matches in club history to begin a season - due to completion work on the $85 million transformation of Providence Park.
