PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Thorns FC topped Racing Louisville FC 3-0 at Providence Park on Saturday night. Lindsey Horan, Rocky Rodríguez and Angela Salem each finished the match with a goal and an assist, while Portland recorded its third clean sheet of 2021 to secure the victory.

Thorns FC Attack

Through five matches, Thorns FC lead the NWSL with 11 goals, outscoring their opponents 9-2 in matches at Providence Park. Individually, eight different players have scored a goal for Portland this season. Notably, Thorns FC finished the match with 28 shots, which set a new single-season club record for shots in a regular-season match, surpassing the previous record of 25 shots set during the 2013 season.

Limiting Chances

Portland recorded its third clean sheet in five matches this season. Thorns FC limited Louisville to just four shots in the match, surrendering no shots on target. It marks the second time this season Portland has held an opponent to less than five shots in a match. Thorns FC surrendered four shots against the Chicago Red Stars on May 16. Notably, Thorns FC have not allowed more than four shots on goal in all five of their matches this campaign.

Firsts

Salem scored her first career goal with the Portland and tallied her first assist for the club. It was her first goal in NWSL action since 2016 with the Boston Breakers. Rodríguez scored her first goal and tallied her first assist in an NWSL regular season game with Thorns FC. Horan added her first goal and tallied her first assist of the 2021 regular season campaign. Marissa Everett made her 2021 regular-season debut, while Meghan Nally made her NWSL regular season and Providence Park debut.

Goal-Scoring Plays

POR - Angela Salem (Rocky Rodríguez), 8th minute: Simone Charley lofted a cross into the center of the box from the right side. Louisville attempted to clear the ball, but it took a deflection and Rodríguez re-directed the ball to Salem, who sent a knuckling strike from distance into the back of the net.

POR - Rocky Rodríguez (Lindsey Horan), 48th minute: Horan dribbled into the 18-yard box from the left side of the field, taking the ball to the end line. She cut back toward the center of the box and fired a low hard cross to Rodríguez, who fired the ball inside the left post from close range.

POR - Lindsey Horan (Angela Salem), 77th minute: Salem collected a loose ball near the left sideline and played a short pass to Horan, who deposited a curling strike from 25 yards out on the left wing inside the right post.

Notes:

Angela Salem scored her first career goal and tallied her first assist for Portland.

Rocky Rodríguez scored her first goal and tallied her first assist in an NWSL regular season match for the Thorns FC.

Lindsey Horan tallied her first goal and assist of the 2021 regular season campaign.

Salem is the ninth different player to score a goal for Thorns FC across all competitions in 2021.

Adrianna Franch recorded her fifth shutout across all competitions in 2021.

Thorns FC recorded their third shutout in five matches.

Emily Menges became the second player in Thorns' history to reach 120 appearances, behind Christine Sinclair.

Marissa Everett made her 2021 NWSL regular season debut.

Meghan Nally made her career NWSL regular-season and Providence Park debut.

Thorns FC have recorded 20 or more shots in all five regular-season matches in 2021.

Since 2014, Portland has compiled a record of 6-0-0 against new expansion sides in their first season in the league.

Thorns FC have scored nine goals at home in 2021 with four of those goals coming in the first 15 minutes of the match.

Portland has outscored its opponents 9-2 at Providence Park in 2021 regular-season play.
