Saskatchewan Rush News Release
Saskatoon, SK - Fan favorite Jeremy Thompson has agreed to a new two-year contract to remain with the Saskatchewan Rush.
Rush GM/Head Coach Derek Keenan announced the deal for the eight-year veteran transition this morning. A player of First Nations descent, Thompson passion for the game of lacrosse is evident each night on the turf as well as in his continual efforts to spread his knowledge to young players who share his heritage.
"I'm really happy to see Jeremy continue his great career in Saskatchewan," said Keenan. "He could have tested free agency, but once again he has shown his commitment to the Rush and to the communities in Saskatchewan that he so proudly supports."
Originally drafted by Buffalo with the ninth overall pick in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft, Thompson was acquired the following season by the Rush. Since then, he has played in every regular-season and playoff game for the club.
This past season, Thompson collected 10 points, including one shorthanded goal, and led the NLL with 208 loose ball scoops. He is widely regarded as one of the top faceoff specialists in the league and proved that again in 2019 as he finished third with 263 faceoff wins, moving him into third spot on the league's all-time leaders list with 1,961 (regular season and playoffs combined). The Syracuse, New York, product is also fourth on the all-time leaders list with 1,452 loose balls.
For his career, Thompson has notched 48 goals and 67 assists for 115 points in 138 regular-season games. A three-time NLL champion and 2016 All-Pro Second Team member, Thompson has added 17 points in playoff action.
