St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - David Thompson fueled a dramatic 11-7 comeback win for the St. Lucie Mets over the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Wednesday at Tradition Field.
The Mets trailed 7-3 at the stretch but scored the final eight runs of the game in the seventh and eighth innings for a victory that kept them tied with the Jupiter Hammerheads for first place in the FSL South.
Jhoan Urena blasted a leadoff homer in the seventh to make it 7-4. Three batters later Thompson came up with runners on the corners. He laced a two-run double to left field. After catcher Nick Ciuffo's tag on Kevin Kaczmarski at the plate was late, Ciuffo tried to cut down Thompson advancing to third base. His throw was errant and Thompson ran home to tie the game.
Patrick Biondi broke the 7-all score in the eighth with a RBI single into right field that plated Vinny Siena. Grant Kay's throw home got away and Urena came in to make it 9-7. Thompson ripped a two-run homer later in the frame to put an exclamation point on the comeback.
Corey Taylor retired all six batters he faced in the eighth and ninth innings to record the win.
Thompson went 2 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Biondi, Kaczmarski, Kevin Taylor, Tomas Nido and Urena also had two hits each.
Urena and Biondi score three runs apiece.
