Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle used three pitchers to complete a 1-0 shutout win over the Palm Beach Cardinals on Wednesday night at Hammond Stadium.
In the third, the Miracle scored the first and only run of the game. Alex Perez led off by drawing a walk from Cardinals starter Derian Gonzalez. After Sean Miller popped up to second base, Daniel Kihle hit into a force play at second to retire Perez. With two out and one on, Tanner English coaxed a walk from Gonzalez (0-2). A.J. Murray then pulled an 0-1 pitch through the left side. Kihle raced home to slide safely across home plate, 1-0.
Murray finished the night 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Miracle starter Miles Nordgren turned in his best appearance of the season with six scoreless frames. Nordgren (1-4) faced just one over the minimum and gave up one hit while striking out two with one walk.
The combination of Cameron Booser and Nick Anderson kept the Cardinals off the board over the final three innings to complete the shutout. Booser tossed 0.2 of the seventh, but Anderson took over after Booser walked the bases loaded with two outs. Anderson recorded the final seven outs to earn his seventh save of the season.
The shutout was the Fort Myers pitching staff's 17th of the year.
The Miracle (65-63, 31-28) and Cardinals (51-75, 19-39) wrap up a three-game series at Hammond Stadium on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Fernando Romero (4-2) starts for the Miracle against Palm Beach hurler Sandy Alcantara (0-2).
